essiac tea - method, ingredients & additional info

    THE essiac HERBS

These are the four herbs that you use to make essiac tea.

    Burdock Root (Arctium lappa)

    Sheep Sorrel (Rumex acetosella)

    Turkey Rhubarb Root (Rheum palmatum)

    Slippery Elm Bark (Ulmus fulva)

These herbs come ready combined in their correct quantities when you buy our one month supply essiac tea mix. All herbs in our mix are 100% organic.

The following recipie will give you enough tea for one month based upon our reccommended dosage.

If you are using the naturallythinking tea mix then you do not need to combine the herbs as the come ready combined.

    EQUIPMENT

    • A container capable of holding 4.54 Litres (8 pints) with a lid.
    • A second stainless steel pan of appropriate size into which you can strain the contents of your first pan.
    • A stainless steel fine mesh strainer ('V' shaped strainers tend to work out best)
    • A stainless steel funnel.
    • A large stainless steel or wooden spoon.
    • 8 * 500ml (16oz) Winchester Amber bottles with tops.

You will find that boiling and straining the tea will considerably reduce the amount of liquid with which you start.

    WATER

Use either fresh spring water or sodium free distilled water.

We use bottled (still) spring water from the supermarket.

You can buy distilled water, if you prefer to use that, from chemists' shops.

    A One Month Supply Recipie

    • 26.5g Burdock Root
    • 18.0g Sheep Sorrel (powder if possible)
    • 1.0g Turkey Rhubarb Root Powder
    • 4.5g Slippery Elm Bark Powder
    • Total scale weight of mixture = 50g

PREPARING AND STERILISING THE AMBER BOTTLES FOR ESSIAC TEA

Before using the bottles you might have to get rid of the disks of waxed cardboard that are sometimes in the tops. If the manufacturers have glued them in they may get messy when you are sterilising them.

A disadvantage of using heat to sterilise bottles is that the insert of any bottle top will probably disintegrate during the process. It is important therefore to find bottles that have tops that will still have a good seal without them (the bottles we provide have).

    STERILISATION

You must sterilise the bottles and tops every time you make essiac tea.

Sterilise them shortly before you need them.

We have found that the easiest way to do it is by using baby steralising liquid available from Boots etc, simply follow the dilution instructions on the bottle and fill your bottles. Rinse clean after use and allow them to airdry. It is important to wait until the bottles are completely dry before use to avoid any cross contamination.

You can also steralise your bottles by heating the bottles in the oven. To do this stand them upright (without their tops) in an ordinary roasting tin. Then put them for a period of ten minutes into the oven at a temperature of 230 degrees Centigrade. Take them out of the oven and let the bottles cool in the tin. Boil the tops in a pan of water for about ten to fifteen minutes. Do this at the same time as sterilising the bottles. Put the tops back onto the bottles when both have cooled down a little, putting them aside until you need them.

    METHOD

    1. Here is the cooking method that most essiac tea recipes recommend you to use:
    2. Bring the water to the boil
    3. Drop in the essiac herb mixture
    4. Stir, cover and boil hard for 10 minutes
    5. Turn off the heat
    6. Let the tea stand covered for 6 hours
    7. Remove the cover and stir
    8. Return the cover and let the tea stand for another 6 hours
    9. Turn on the heat and bring it just up to the boil.
    10. Strain the tea into another stainless steel pan. Wash the first pan thoroughly. Strain the tea once again back into the original pan. Pour it into the sterilised amber bottles straight away and screw on the tops. Cool and store the bottles of tea, upright, in a refrigerator or a cool dark place. Keep the bottles refrigerated once you have opened them.

We provide a simple, but detailed set of instructions wit every order, however you can download these instructions online by clicking here (PDF).

    BUY ONLINE

We used to sell essiac tea ready brewed and bottled online, however the cost of delivery was proving very prohibitive. We now sell the raw mix, mixed to the correct quantities for one a month supply.

We have found over the last year, that after you have done the brewing once you find how easy it is (it really isn't as time consuming as it seems reading above) and our customers come back month after month for their supply.

Because of our personal attachment to essiac tea we have an ethical policy to sell it at a low price just to cover the cost of labour involved, keeping in the spirit of Rene Caisse and her original insturctions.

We are happy to send the mix to any country in the world. We only use organic ingredients, to try to avoid the chemicals of modern day life.

    ESSIAC TINCTURE

We are currently looking at the possibility of creating a tincture of essiac tea. This would mainly be used as a "top up" and a preventative measure, not just against cancer but against ailments such as arthritis.

We are thoroughly researching the effectiveness of the essiac in a tincture form before selling it, as we believe there is no point in selling something that may not work.

The advantages of a tincture would be the portability and size and concentration. A tincture is typically very concentrate, therefore would only need a couple of drops on the tongue and a small 10ml bottle would carry enough for a months supply.

Please check our magazine section for any further announcements.
